Practical Nursing Program Admissions Process

To be considered for selection into a class, applicants must have their application requirements completed at least 4 weeks prior to the class start date.

Transfer Credit

Transfer credit will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Contact the Admissions office at admissions@appliedtech.edu or via phone at 314.989.7585 to have documentation of prior coursework evaluated. Documentation must be submitted to the Applied Tech Admissions Office no later than 2 weeks prior to the paperwork cutoff date for a specific cohort.

Credit for coursework accomplished at Applied Tech is granted transferability at the discretion of the accepting institution. Consequently, students should confirm that attendance at Applied Tech meets their educational goals. This may include contacting a potential institution to which the student may seek to transfer after attending Applied Tech to determine if their coursework will transfer.

Ability to benefit

We do not admit students under the Ability to Benefit criteria.

High School Diploma or Equivalent

To be eligible to apply for our Practical Nursing Program a student must have achieved a high school diploma or equivalent from a valid institution.

The admission office will confirm all students’ transcripts arrive from a valid high school with the high school seal and/or signature. The admission office may investigate school documentation to confirm the school is recognized by the state department of education or home school association. The admission office may request a copy of the student’s diploma at any point in the admission process. If a diploma is determined invalid, a GED may be required for admission consideration. Student self-certification is not sufficient documentation and there is no appeal process if we are unable to validate your high school diploma.

Step 1

Entry Testing

Scholastic Level Exam (SLE) -Minimum Score of 19 Required Starting with the Spring 2014 LPN Classes. Practice exams can be found here.

The SLE is a 12 minute assessment that measures cognitive ability. It predicts how quickly and thoroughly a student can understand instruction, learn new material and handle the mental demands of school. Cognitive ability is widely accepted as being one of the single best predictors of academic success.

General Assessment of Instructional Needs (GAIN)

The GAIN is a 90 minute assessment for learning that helps measure English and math skills of adults and teens, from basic literacy and numeracy to more advanced skills taught in secondary schools in accordance with Educational Functioning Levels (EFLs) as defined by the U.S. National Reporting System (NRS). This literacy and numeracy assessment is approved by the U.S. Department of labor for use in Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Out-of-school youth programs and by the U.S. Department of Education for use in NRS-funded Adult Basic Education programs.

Both assessments are created by Wonderlic Inc. and study guides for either assessment can be found by performing an internet search.

Step 2

Financial Aid

Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentaid.ed.gov Our School Code is: 030686. For assistance, contact our Student Aid Office at (314) 989-7583.

Step 3

Complete Applicant Packet

Upon successful completion of the entry test, you will be given an applicant packet. The completed packet must be turned in 30-days prior to class start. The applicant packet consists of:

Criminal Background Check
9-Panel Urine Drug Screen (BJC form provided)
Professional References (3 forms provided)
Health Screening (Including all immunizations)
Family Registry (After request is made it will be mailed to you; we will need a copy)

For all prospective students who are not U.S. Citizens, a copy of residency status will need to be provided to the program coordinator prior to acceptance into the program.

For all prospective students who were educated outside of the U.S., an Application for Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials by Educational Credentials Evaluators is required.

Applicants must have a clean drug screen, and a clear family registry in order to be considered for application into the Applied Technology Services Practical Nursing program.

Step 4

Interview

Once your file is complete your interview will be conducted. Final class seating is assigned only after all admission paperwork is on file and you have been selected for entrance into the program by the selection committee.

Completion of the application process in no way guarantees placement in the program and all costs incurred for the application process are non-refundable.
