Learn to set up and operate manual feed gas welding equipment correctly and safely. Reading gas welding symbols and blueprints, welding mild steel in all positions, braising, cast iron braising, and flame cutting mild steel are covered. This course is AWS certified at South Tech.

Arc Welding I

Prerequisite: None
Learn to weld beads in the flat and horizontal position on mild steel plate using a hand held electrode in this introductory course. Welding safety, electrode selection and use, and reading welding symbols and blueprints are also covered. This course is AWS certified at South Tech.

Arc Welding II

Prerequisite: Arc Welding I
Make vertical and overhead welds on mild steel plate using a hand held electrode. Learn welds in the 1F, 2F, 3F, and 4F positions. Welds are examined for strength, penetration, and uniformity. This course is AWS certified at South Tech.

Arc Welding III

Prerequisite: Arc Welding II
Make 100% penetration with 6010 drop through and 7018 filler and cap in all positions. Welds are examined for strength, penetration, and uniformity.

Pipe Welding I
72 hours
Prerequisite: None
Students spend the first 30 hours learning edge preparation and practicing welds on mild steel plate. The remaining time is spent welding mild steel schedule 40 pipe in the 1G and 2G position. Tuition does not include the cost of pipe.

Pipe Welding II

Prerequisite: Pipe Welding I
Learn to weld schedule 40 mild steel pipe in the following positions: 2G horizontal fixed, 5G - flat - vertical - overhead fixed, and 6G - pipe fixed at 45 degrees. Tuition does not include the cost of pipe.

Pipe Welding III

Prerequisite: Pipe Welding II
Students weld schedule 40 mild steel pipe in all positions and bend -test welds. Procedures for the safe fabrication of certified welds are taught. Tuition does not include the cost of pipe.

Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding I
36 hours
Prerequisite: None
Learn to set up and operate a MIG wire feed welder. Students are instructed on mild steel. Students who wish to concentrate on stainless steel will have to pay an additional $100 for materials. More than 36 hours of instruction is required to learn MIG welding on more than one metal.

Continue skill development in MIG welding using various metals and positions.

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding I

Prerequisite: None
Learn to set up and operate TIG welding equipment. Students may select instruction on either stainless steel or aluminum. Students who select stainless steel will have to pay an additional $100 for materials. Thirty six hours of instruction is required to learn TIG welding on each metal.
