The Department of Health and Senior Services approved curriculum is used to provide students with the 175 hours of instruction and application required to become a Certified Nurse Assistant which prepares individuals for employment in a long-term care facility. The program teaches skills in resident care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Instruction consists of 75 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours of practicum (on-the-job) training in a nursing home. Some of the topics covered include: basic nursing skills; fire safety; disaster training; resident safety and rights; and social and psychological problems of residents and the methods of caring for the mentally confused residents, such as those with Alzheimer's disease.
CNA Challenge:
A student may become a CNA by successfully challenging the CNA examination. To challenge the CNA examination, students must have a permission letter from the Department of Health and Senior Services. The admissions staff will arrange CNA challenge examinations with a certified CNA instructor.
Tuition does not include the certification fee.
